Healthy eating or eating well, is based on using fresh foods that are sustainably raised and served in season.”It is a good stewardship for the earth and a good stewardship for your body”. There is no need to dwell on what you are missing, just focus on lean proteins, whole grains, and multi-colored fresh fruits and vegetables, which are the building blocks that are kitchens need to be based on.
Rules For Eating Well…
- Splurge on color, color, color: red, purple, green, yellow and blue. To get the maximum benefit eating fruits and vegetables, just choose a variety of intense colors every day. Stay away from white, except for cauliflower, onions, and garlic.
- Don’t eat anything your great-grandmother didn’t: Sugar-coated cereals with freeze dried fruits and marshmallow pieces? Crackers with partially hydrogenated vegetable oils and artificial flavorings? Carbonated drinks with high-fruitose corn syrup? I don’t think so!
- Read food labels: Check the first four ingredients on the nutrition label and don’t eat anything you cannot pronounce.
- Eat foods as they grow: Less processed is better than highly processed; simpler is better than complicated; whole is better than refined, “If it doesn’t have a mother or you don’t get it from the ground…Don’t Eat It!”. Never skip breakfast and never let yourself get overly hungry.
